Sheriff: Victoria Gonzalez dies after pickup driver flees crash scene

HARRIS COUNTY, TX, (April 05, 2026) — A 27-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash Sunday evening on the East Freeway in Harris County, authorities said.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Victoria Gonzalez was driving a Chevrolet Cruze when her vehicle was rear-ended by a Chevrolet pickup truck. The driver of the pickup allegedly fled the scene following the collision.

Gonzalez, who would have turned 28 this weekend, died from injuries sustained in the crash. She is survived by her family, including her 9-year-old daughter. Investigators are actively searching for the suspect.

FATAL HIT-AND-RUN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

It can be difficult to track down a hit-and-run driver who leaves the scene after a crash.

In addition to law enforcement efforts, an experienced attorney can assist by employing investigators to locate witnesses, review surveillance footage, and gather additional evidence. Many drivers flee because they may be intoxicated, unlicensed, or fear arrest if they remain at the scene.

Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, emphasized that in cases like this, it is crucial to have an independent investigation conducted to protect a victim’s rights.

“Having the proper resources is essential to thoroughly investigate a hit-and-run case and establish negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “Factors such as road conditions, visibility of signage, and lighting must be carefully reviewed. These steps are critical in helping families seek justice and obtain the compensation they deserve.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family of Victoria Gonzalez may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Loved ones of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain, suffering, and emotional distress following such a tragic incident.

“The emotional impact of losing a loved one in an accident can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “We understand the challenges families face, and ensuring their rights are protected is essential. A wrongful death attorney will stay informed on the investigation and help safeguard their legal interests.”
