Veronda Tyndall injured in Robeson County crash, NCSHP

LUMBERTON, NC, (March 29, 2026) – A Lumberton woman was injured Sunday morning in a suspected DUI-related head-on crash on NC Highway 211, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Authorities said a westbound Mazda crossed the centerline at approximately 10:44 a.m. and collided head-on with an eastbound Cadillac. The Mazda overturned and came to rest in a nearby field, while the Cadillac left the roadway.

Veronda Jean Tyndall, who was driving the Cadillac, was airlifted to Grand Strand Medical Center in North Myrtle Beach for treatment. Officials said impairment and speed were not factors for Tyndall.

A passenger in the Mazda was pronounced dead at the scene. The Mazda’s driver, a 19-year-old man, was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Speed and impairment are suspected, and charges are pending. The investigation is ongoing.

DUI ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

This type of accident was preventable. Impaired drivers pose a serious danger to everyone on the roadway and can cause devastating consequences.

“Drunken and drugged drivers are subject to criminal charges following an accident or collision that causes harm or kills another person,’’ explained Candice Bond, a Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

She added, “Separate from criminal charges, a victim’s family may also be eligible to pursue compensation through a civil lawsuit against the responsible party.”

According to the National Safety Council, 10 percent of all fatal automobile accidents are caused by drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other medications. These crashes are the second-leading cause of automobile fatalities in the United States.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Veronda Tyndall may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim pending an investigation.

Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal, said, “Injured victims involved in a collision often pursue a personal injury claim to help cover medical expenses, future treatment, lost income, emotional distress, and pain and suffering.”

“Insurance companies are often unconcerned with the growing costs that an injured victim may face. An attorney can assist in protecting victims, ensuring that insurance companies are held accountable and provide fair compensation,” he added.
