LUMBERTON, NC, (March 29, 2026) – A Lumberton woman was injured Sunday morning in a suspected DUI-related head-on crash on NC Highway 211, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Authorities said a westbound Mazda crossed the centerline at approximately 10:44 a.m. and collided head-on with an eastbound Cadillac. The Mazda overturned and came to rest in a nearby field, while the Cadillac left the roadway.
Veronda Jean Tyndall, who was driving the Cadillac, was airlifted to Grand Strand Medical Center in North Myrtle Beach for treatment. Officials said impairment and speed were not factors for Tyndall.
A passenger in the Mazda was pronounced dead at the scene. The Mazda’s driver, a 19-year-old man, was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Speed and impairment are suspected, and charges are pending. The investigation is ongoing.
