Fatal U.S. 84 crash near Amherst kills driver Lori Moyer

AMHERST, TX, (November 19, 2025) — A New Mexico woman was killed Wednesday afternoon in a collision involving a tractor-trailer on U.S. Highway 84 near Amherst, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Authorities reported that Lori Moyer, 53, of Fort Sumner, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado when it collided with a Peterbilt truck-tractor towing a trailer at about 1:49 p.m.

Moyer, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. No additional details about the crash have been released as the investigation continues.

FATAL SEMI-TRUCK ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

As officials continue to investigate the crash, it is important to recognize that multiple factors can contribute to tractor-trailer collisions. These may include loss of control, mechanical issues, or driver fatigue.

Candice Bond, a seasoned tractor-trailer accident attorney, noted that independent investigations are essential in cases like this to ensure a victim’s family is fully protected.

“Tractor-trailer crashes are often complex, and numerous elements can influence what occurred,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “A skilled attorney can shield a grieving family from trucking companies that frequently deploy their own investigators and possess extensive resources. Your lawyer can help by securing expert witnesses, reviewing driver records, locating crash witnesses, and examining insurance coverage, while carefully guiding you through every stage of the legal process.”

In 2023, the National Safety Council reported 5,472 deaths involving large trucks — a decrease from the previous year but still a 40% increase over the past decade. Seventy percent of those killed were occupants of other vehicles.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Lori Moyer may have grounds to file a wrongful death claim. Such claims allow surviving relatives to pursue compensation for loss of love and companionship, funeral expenses, emotional distress, and other damages following a tragic event like this.

“The grief and emotional turmoil after losing a loved one in a crash can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “Families deserve to have their rights safeguarded. A wrongful death attorney will monitor the official investigation and work to ensure that the family’s legal interests and best interests remain protected.”
