US 24 crash near Chariton River Bridge kills Keytesville woman

CHARITON, MO, (May 16, 2026) – A Keytesville woman was killed and another man was seriously injured Saturday night following a motorcycle crash in Chariton County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Authorities said the crash occurred at approximately 11:20 p.m. on U.S. Highway 24 near the Chariton River Bridge. Investigators reported that a 2011 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling eastbound when it left the roadway and crashed.

A 43-year-old Keytesville woman, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, was ejected from the bike and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 47-year-old man from Brookfield, sustained serious injuries and was transported to University Hospital for treatment.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION

This incident highlights the continued dangers faced by motorcyclists on roadways across the country.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than 6,300 motorcyclists were killed on U.S. roads in 2023, accounting for approximately 15% of all traffic fatalities that year.

“Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable road users, and many different factors can contribute to fatal crashes,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“Blind spots, distracted driving, and inexperience often play a role in these types of collisions. In many cases, an accident reconstruction team and motorcycle safety experts are needed to properly analyze what occurred,” Bond added, an experienced motorcycle accident attorney.

“These resources are essential for helping families pursue compensation following a tragic crash. Attorneys can also locate witnesses, review insurance coverage, and work with experts to build a complete understanding of the incident,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of the victim may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, emotional distress, pain and suffering, and other losses following a tragic accident such as this.

“The stress and sorrow after losing a loved one in a crash can be extremely overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the difficult circumstances families face, and protecting their rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney can stay informed on the investigation and help ensure a family’s legal interests are fully protected.”

“An attorney can also help protect families from large insurance companies and their legal teams while carefully reviewing the facts of the case. Legal counsel will work to ensure families are treated fairly and their rights are enforced.”
