Ursula Hunley killed in Hinds County crash; Damaris Hunley injured

RAYMOND, MS, (April 24, 2026) – A 51-year-old woman was killed and her twin sister injured early Friday morning in a head-on collision in Hinds County, authorities said.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Ursula Hunley, of Utica, was driving a 2007 Honda Pilot on Highway 18 with her sister, Damaris Hunley, as a passenger. Just before 4:30 a.m., a westbound 2025 Chevrolet Silverado collided head-on with their vehicle.

Ursula Hunley sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Damaris Hunley was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson with injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 29-year-old man from Petal, was also taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Emergency responders from the Raymond Fire Department, multiple ambulance units, AirCare, and the Hinds County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

TWO-VEHICLE CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

The cause of the crash is under investigation. During the probe, authorities will work to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal collision involving Ursula and Damaris Hunley.

Head-on crashes are among the most dangerous types of accidents on roadways, and as this case shows, the consequences can be devastating. While only about 2% of crashes in the United States are head-on collisions, they account for more than 10% of all traffic fatalities.

According to Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, several factors may contribute to head-on crashes, including driver error, distracted driving, fatigue, speeding, and roadway design issues. However, impairment due to drugs or alcohol remains one of the leading causes.

“In addition to the work conducted by law enforcement, an attorney can revisit key witnesses, review surveillance footage from the scene, and obtain phone and texting records of the responsible party,” said Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“Acting quickly is critical in cases like this, and families must ensure that evidence is preserved and examined thoroughly.”

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes necessary to determine exactly what occurred. These resources are essential in helping families pursue compensation after a tragic loss,” added Bond, a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Ursula Hunley and Damaris Hunley may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families affected by such tragedies may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and pain and suffering.

“We understand that losing a loved one is not only emotionally devastating but can also create financial hardship,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel with Bond Legal. “If a death occurs due to another party’s negligence, families should seek legal guidance to pursue justice.”

“Families are often overwhelmed by the legal process during such difficult times. An attorney can provide support and guidance while ensuring that their rights are protected and that they receive the compensation they deserve,” he added.
