Highway Patrol: Tynell Streeter Jr. dies in Wake County I-40 wreck

WAKE, NC, (February 08, 2026) — A 22-year-old Clayton man was killed early Feb. 8 in a crash involving an alleged impaired driver on Interstate 40, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Authorities said Tynell Streeter Jr. was a passenger in a Lexus operated by 27-year-old Arnel Michael Christian. At approximately 2 a.m., the vehicle traveled off the roadway and struck a box truck parked on the right shoulder with a flat tire.

Streeter died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. Investigators determined that speed and impairment were contributing factors.

Christian has been charged with felony death by motor vehicle. The investigation remains ongoing.

DWI CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, 361 people were killed in 2024 and 7,227 were injured in crashes involving alcohol-impaired drivers.

When a motorist is under the influence, judgment can be compromised, vision blurred, coordination reduced, and reaction times significantly delayed. Candice Bond, an experienced DUI accident attorney, shared her perspective on cases such as this.

“Beyond any criminal prosecution, a victim’s family may have the right to pursue financial compensation through a civil action against the at-fault party,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “An attorney can serve as a dedicated advocate, helping guide grieving families through the legal process while working to hold impaired drivers accountable for their reckless behavior.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Tynell Streeter Jr. may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving relatives of wrongful death victims are generally entitled to seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.

“We recognize the immense hardship families face after such a devastating loss, and safeguarding their rights is essential,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death attorney will monitor the official investigation and help ensure that the family’s best interests remain protected. Loved ones may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress after a tragic accident.”
