Tyler Robinson Dies After Being Struck Near Marine, ISP Says

MARINE, IL, (May 19, 2026) – A 24-year-old Marine resident was tragically killed early Tuesday morning in a pedestrian accident near the intersection of State Routes 4 and 143 in Madison County, according to Illinois State Police.

Authorities said Tyler Robinson was struck by a vehicle at approximately 5:09 a.m. under circumstances that remain under investigation. Emergency personnel responded to the scene, where Robinson was pronounced deceased.

Investigators said the vehicle involved in the collision was later located, and the driver was cooperating with authorities and the Madison County Coroner’s Office.

The Illinois State Police continue to investigate the fatal crash to determine the events leading up to the collision.

FATAL PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

The coroner’s office and Illinois State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal pedestrian collision.

Although motorists are generally required to yield to pedestrians, those traveling on foot continue to face significant dangers nationwide. According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, pedestrian fatalities have continued to rise in the state, with 218 deaths reported in 2024. Roughly 83% of deadly pedestrian crashes occur in urban areas.

“In most situations, pedestrians have the right of way while crossing a roadway or intersection, even if they are not inside a marked crosswalk,” said Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.

Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, explained that independent investigations conducted by qualified attorneys are often critical in protecting the rights of victims’ families following serious crashes.

“Having the necessary resources is essential when investigating a pedestrian accident and establishing negligence,” Bond said. “Factors such as roadway conditions, lighting, and visibility of signs must all be carefully reviewed. A comprehensive investigation can help families seek the justice they deserve after losing a loved one.”

The Governors Highway Safety Association estimated there were 6,721 pedestrian fatalities nationwide in 2020, representing a 4.8% increase from the 6,412 deaths reported in 2019.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Tyler Robinson may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim for the loss of companionship, funeral expenses, emotional suffering, and other damages.

“The grief and emotional distress following the loss of a loved one in an accident can be devastating,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “Families often face tremendous hardship during these situations, and protecting their legal rights is extremely important. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the official investigation and help ensure the family’s interests remain safeguarded throughout the legal process.”
