ERIE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal accident that happened May 9 on Suder Avenue in Erie Township. Officials are working to determine which occupant was driving at the time of the crash.
At around 3 a.m., a 2001 Honda CR-V was traveling south on Suder Avenue. South of Lotus Drive, the driver failed to navigate a curve. The vehicle veered off the the roadway, struck a utility pole, then hit a tree before overturning onto its roof.
Tyler Collins, 27, suffered critical injuries. Emergency personnel transported him to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
A 26-year-old male from Toledo was also injured. Authorities said his injuries were not life-threatening.
Officials believe speed and alcohol contributed to the accident.
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
