Two women hurt in MO-37 crash near Purdy, MSHP says

BARRY, MO, (April 10, 2026) – Two people were killed and two others seriously injured Friday afternoon in a crash near Purdy in Barry County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2009 GMC Envoy traveling northbound on Missouri Route 37 hydroplaned at approximately 12:45 p.m., crossed into oncoming traffic, and collided with a southbound Honda CR-V.

The 46-year-old Indiana woman driving the Honda and a 40-year-old Columbia woman passenger sustained serious injuries and were transported to Cox South Hospital.

Two occupants of the GMC Envoy died in the crash. Authorities continue to investigate.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Approximately 2.2 million people were injured in motor vehicle crashes nationwide in 2023, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Wet road conditions significantly increase crash risks, as rain reduces traction, increases stopping distances, and can cause vehicles to hydroplane. Even light rainfall can create slick road surfaces due to oil and debris.

“It is crucial to determine the exact cause of these types of crashes,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

She emphasized that timely independent investigations are essential to preserving evidence and identifying contributing factors.

“In addition to official reports, attorneys can review potential contributing elements such as driver behavior, vehicle conditions, and environmental factors. They may also consult expert witnesses, review insurance coverage, and locate witnesses,” Bond added.

“Legal representation can help guide injured victims and their families through what is often a complex and challenging process.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the injured victims may have the right to pursue personal injury claims. Compensation could include medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal, noted that serious injuries can disrupt every aspect of a victim’s life.

“It is important for victims to retain an attorney when pursuing a personal injury claim, as legal counsel can negotiate with insurance companies on their behalf,” Formica said.

“Insurance companies often attempt to settle claims quickly for less than their full value. However, an attorney will advocate to ensure victims receive fair compensation for their losses.”
