Two pedestrians injured in Tramway Blvd DWI pedestrian crash in NM

ALBUQUERQUE, NM, (April 28, 2026) – Two pedestrians were injured Tuesday night in Albuquerque, including one with serious injuries, after being struck by an allegedly impaired driver, according to authorities.

The Albuquerque Police Department (APD) reported that the crash occurred shortly before 10:10 p.m. near the intersection of Tramway Boulevard NE and Candelaria Road NE. Investigators said a vehicle struck two pedestrians who were in the area at the time.

One victim suffered serious injuries, including a fractured pelvis and facial lacerations, and was transported to the University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH). The second pedestrian sustained road rash and was also taken to UNMH for treatment.

Police arrested the driver at the scene on charges of DWI and great bodily harm by vehicle.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.

DWI ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

This crash highlights how preventable impaired driving incidents continue to endanger lives. Drivers under the influence pose serious risks to everyone on the roadway and can cause life-altering injuries.

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), approximately 300,000 people are injured annually in the United States due to drunk driving incidents. Impairment can significantly reduce judgment, vision, coordination, and reaction time.

“Drunk or drug-impaired drivers are subject to criminal prosecution when their actions result in injury or death,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“Separately from criminal charges, injured victims or their families may also pursue civil compensation against the responsible party,” Bond added, noting the importance of legal accountability.

The National Safety Council reports that about 10 percent of all fatal crashes involve impaired driving, making it one of the leading causes of roadway deaths in the country.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

“It is generally a driver’s legal duty to yield to pedestrians,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. Pending investigation results, the injured victims may have grounds to pursue personal injury claims.

Formica noted that injuries from such crashes can be physically, emotionally, and financially overwhelming, affecting all aspects of daily life.

“It is essential for victims to retain legal counsel when filing a personal injury claim, as attorneys can negotiate directly with insurance companies on their behalf,” Formica said.

“Insurance companies often attempt to resolve claims quickly for less than their full value. A qualified attorney will advocate aggressively to ensure victims are treated fairly and receive appropriate compensation.”
