PORT ARTHUR, TX, June 30, 2026 — A 31-year-old Baytown man was killed in a crash involving a commercial vehicle early Tuesday morning near Port Arthur.
Authorities identified the victim as Eddie Alvarez, who was driving a Honda at the time of the crash. According to officials, an Autocar truck tractor driven by a 26-year-old San Juan man failed to yield the right of way at a crossover yield intersection on State Highway 73 and pulled into the path of Alvarez’s Honda, striking it in the rear.
Alvarez was pronounced deceased at the scene. The crash occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m.
The driver of the Autocar truck tractor was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Autocar truck tractors are heavy-duty Class 7 or 8 commercial vehicles designed to haul trailers.
The crash remains under investigation, and no further details have been released at this time.
