Troy head-on accident injures Scott Branam, kills driver on Hwy 47

TROY, MO, (May 24, 2026) – A head-on collision early Sunday morning in Troy claimed the life of one driver and left another man injured, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Authorities said the crash occurred shortly before 5 a.m. on Highway 47 near Two Pine Drive. Investigators determined that a Chevrolet Cobalt traveling eastbound crossed the center dividing line and collided head-on with a westbound Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

The driver of the Silverado, identified as 38-year-old Scott Branam of Foley, sustained injuries in the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Officials said the 22-year-old driver of the Chevrolet Cobalt died as a result of injuries suffered in the collision.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Head-on crashes are among the deadliest types of motor vehicle accidents because of the tremendous force generated when two vehicles collide, often at high speeds. These accidents frequently result in catastrophic injuries, including traumatic brain injuries and severe orthopedic trauma.

Driver error remains one of the leading causes of head-on collisions. Other contributing factors can include distracted driving, speeding, impaired driving, poor roadway design, inexperienced motorists, and driver confusion.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 2.2 million people were injured in motor vehicle accidents nationwide in 2023.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors considered and examined,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“Accident reconstruction specialists are sometimes necessary to determine exactly what occurred,” Bond added. “These investigative resources are critical in helping victims pursue compensation for injuries, damages, or losses resulting from a serious collision.”

Bond also emphasized that preserving and reviewing evidence promptly is especially important in cases involving serious injury crashes.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, Scott Branam may have grounds to pursue a personal injury claim. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, explained that the aftermath of a serious injury can place enormous emotional and financial strain on victims and their families.

“A serious accident can disrupt nearly every aspect of a person’s life, including employment, finances, family responsibilities, and overall well-being,” Formica said.

“It is important for injured victims to retain experienced legal counsel when pursuing a personal injury claim because an attorney can negotiate directly with insurance companies on the client’s behalf,” he added.

“Insurance providers are often unwilling to fully account for the long-term costs associated with severe injuries. An attorney can help protect victims and pursue the compensation they deserve,” Formica noted.
