Trinitee Hunter dies after I-26 chain-reaction crash in Clinton, SC

CLINTON, SC, (April 11, 2026) — A Spartanburg woman died following a multi-vehicle crash Saturday night on Interstate 26 in Laurens County, according to the Laurens County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities said the collision occurred around 9:30 p.m. near mile marker 53 on I-26 East. Trinitee Hunter, 26, was involved in the crash and was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Hunter later succumbed to her injuries on April 14. Officials have not released additional details regarding the other vehicles or how the crash occurred.

Incident Location

THREE-VEHICLE CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

The circumstances and cause of the accident are under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Laurens County Coroner’s Office.

Some of the most severe crashes are multi-vehicle and chain-reaction collisions, which often lead to serious injuries or fatalities, as seen in this incident.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), there were 33,654 fatal crashes in the United States in 2018, resulting in 36,560 deaths. This equates to 11.2 fatalities per 100,000 people and 1.13 deaths per 100 million miles traveled.

A number of factors may contribute to crashes, including impairment, reckless driving, distraction, road conditions, and excessive speed.

Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney, noted that alongside law enforcement efforts, it is critical to conduct an independent investigation promptly to preserve evidence and protect victims’ rights.

“Time is critical in cases like this, and it is important that evidence is reviewed efficiently,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“An attorney will examine all possible contributing factors and has the resources to retain expert witnesses, perform driver background checks, locate witnesses, and review insurance coverage. Acting as an advocate, an attorney can help guide victims or their families through this difficult time while protecting their legal rights and interests,” said Bond, a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, the family of Trinitee Hunter may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim for medical expenses, funeral costs, loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.

“A wrongful death occurs when a person or entity’s negligent or wrongful actions lead to another individual’s death,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“When fatal vehicle accidents are caused by unsafe driving behaviors such as distraction, speeding, or impairment, families are often left with the option to file a civil claim against the responsible party,” Formica added.
