DALLAS, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal accident that happened May 12 on the Dallas North Tollway near Royal Lane. Officials said a vehicle traveling the wrong way struck another car head-on.
Authorities identified the deceased as Trania Jackson, 28. Emergency personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.
Jackson rode in a 2016 Nissan Altima at 1:20 a.m. when a 2017 Nissan Altima traveling north in the southbound lanes struck the vehicle.
The wrong-way driver sideswiped an 18-wheeler before hitting Jackson’s vehicle. The impact caused severe damage and multiple injuries.
A 50-year-old male driving the wrong-way vehicle was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Three other passengers in Jackson’s vehicle suffered serious injuries and were taken to area hospitals. The driver of the 18-wheeler was uninjured.
DPS continues to investigate the accident.

CRASH INVESTIGATION
Wrong-way accidents can occur for numerous reasons, including driver error, distracted driving, and poor road design.
The most common cause of these accidents is driver error. However, the most common cause of wrong-way collisions is DUI, according to NTSB. Statistics show that impaired drivers cause up to 75 percent of all wrong-way crashes.
“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and require thorough examination,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.
“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond.
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the investigation, the family of Trania Jackson may pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.
“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Bond.
“We understand just what families must go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.”
