MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A multi-vehicle accident occurred on May 31 on Interstate 40, resulting in multiple injuries and fatalities.
The accident happened at 3:30 p.m. near N. Hollywood.
A westbound vehicle struck the rear of another vehicle, setting off a chain reaction involving five cars.
Tonya Cannady was in one of the vehicles when the accident occurred. Emergency responders arrived and confirmed she suffered fatal injuries at the scene. Two children traveling with her also perished in the accident.
A fourth person was hospitalized but is expected to recover.
Officials continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
