FATAL BICYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION
Like many cities in the U.S., St. Louis remains a challenging environment for bicyclists who follow the rules of the road.
According to Trailnet, in 2023, about 646 bicyclists were injured or killed in incidents across the city and St. Louis County. In 2020 alone, the city recorded 19 deaths and 205 injuries involving cyclists.
Candice Bond, an experienced bicycle accident attorney, emphasized that independent investigations are essential in cases like this to help ensure the family’s rights are protected.
“Having strong investigative resources is critical when examining a bicycle accident and determining whether a motorist was negligent,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and national analyst for Accident Injury News. “Factors such as road conditions, visibility of signs, and street lighting must be reviewed carefully. Accident reconstruction specialists and bicycle equipment experts are often involved to provide a full picture of what occurred. These steps are crucial to safeguard the legal rights of a grieving family.”
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
The family of Tom Lakey may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of victims are permitted to seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional pain, suffering, and other damages following a tragic incident.
“We recognize the immense hardship families endure after losing a loved one, and ensuring their rights are fully protected is essential,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death attorney will monitor the ongoing investigation and work to secure the support the family needs. Relatives of victims can pursue damages for emotional distress, pain and suffering, and the loss of companionship after such a devastating event.”
