Todd Landry arrested after DWI crash injures 13 in New Iberia

NEW IBERIA, LA (April 04, 2026) – At least 13 people were injured after a suspected impaired driver struck parade-goers Saturday afternoon in New Iberia.

According to Louisiana State Police, the crash occurred around 2:35 p.m. at the intersection of Savannakhet and Melancon Road during the Louisiana Lao New Year Celebration.

Authorities identified the driver as 57-year-old Todd Landry of Jeanerette. Troopers said Landry showed signs of intoxication and provided a breath sample indicating a blood alcohol concentration of 0.137g%.

Landry was booked into the Iberia Parish jail and faces multiple charges, including driving while impaired, careless operation, an open container violation, and 18 counts of first-degree negligent injuring. Investigators said the incident does not appear to be intentional.

DWI CRASH INVESTIGATION

Operating a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol remains a major cause of crashes, serious injuries, and fatalities in Louisiana.

According to LSU Center for Analytics & Research in Transportation Safety data, in 2022, 31% of motor vehicle crashes in Louisiana were alcohol-related, and there were 261 alcohol-impaired driving fatalities. Drivers under the influence may experience poor judgment, impaired vision, reduced coordination, and slower reaction times.

Candice Bond, an experienced DWI accident attorney, commented on incidents such as this.

“Separate from any criminal proceedings, an injured victim may have the right to pursue compensation through a civil lawsuit against the responsible party,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “Beyond the efforts of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview witnesses, review surveillance footage, and obtain phone and text records of the liable party. Acting as an advocate, an attorney can guide victims through this difficult time while protecting their legal rights and ensuring accountability.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

The victims injured in this accident may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, noted that the stress and uncertainty following a serious injury can be overwhelming, affecting family life, employment, finances, and overall well-being.

“While no amount of compensation can undo a serious injury, it is important for victims to understand their legal rights and what they may be entitled to under the law,” Formica added. “Injured victims may pursue a claim to recover damages such as medical expenses, future care costs, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.”
