Tobias Forsythe Killed in I-71 Truck Crash in Madison County

MADISON, OH (June 28, 2026) — A 21-year-old Gahanna man was killed early Sunday morning in a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 71 in Madison County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Tobias Forsythe was driving a Honda Accord southbound on Interstate 71 near milepost 82 shortly after 1:30 a.m. when his vehicle was struck by a Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer.

Forsythe sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said the driver of the Freightliner was transported to Grant Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. Anyone with information about the collision is encouraged to contact OSHP.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Candice Bond, an experienced tractor-trailer accident attorney, said that in cases like this, it is important to conduct an independent investigation as quickly as possible to help protect a victim’s legal rights.

“Tractor-trailer crashes are often complex, and numerous factors can contribute to these types of collisions,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“An experienced attorney can help protect victims when trucking companies deploy their own investigators to crash scenes and use significant resources to defend a potentially negligent truck driver.

“Legal counsel can advocate for victims by retaining expert witnesses, conducting driver background checks, locating witnesses to the collision, and reviewing applicable insurance coverage, while providing guidance throughout the legal process.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family of the victim may have the right to pursue compensation for damages, including costs associated with the death, loss of income, loss of companionship, and other related hardships.

“The death of a loved one in a traffic accident is both tragic and devastating for surviving family members. The grief, shock, and emotional pain can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

He added, “Beyond the emotional suffering experienced by surviving relatives, the loss of a loved one can also create significant financial burdens. Lost income and funeral expenses alone can have lasting consequences for a family coping with such a tragic loss.”
