ELLENSBURG, WA, (May 17, 2026) – A Yakima woman suffered life-threatening injuries Sunday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash in Kittitas County, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Authorities said the collision occurred at approximately 5:15 p.m. on State Route 821 in the Yakima Canyon, about 12 miles south of Ellensburg. Investigators determined that a sedan driven by a 21-year-old Yakima man failed to negotiate a curve and collided with an oncoming pickup truck operated by a 50-year-old Hoodsport man.
The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, identified as 19-year-old Tisiana Gonzales of Yakima, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland for treatment.
Officials said the driver and passenger in the pickup truck were not injured in the crash.
The Washington State Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
