Tiffany Chilton killed crossing highway 31 ramp in Conway

CONWAY, SC, (March 30, 2026) — A 35-year-old woman died after being struck by a vehicle in a pedestrian crash early Monday morning in Conway.

Tiffany Chilton was crossing the on-ramp connecting Highway 31 to Highway 707 at approximately 4:22 a.m. when she was hit by a 2018 Kia sedan, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Chilton sustained multiple traumatic injuries and was transported to South Strand Hospital, where she died shortly before 5 a.m.

The driver of the Kia was not injured. Authorities have not released additional information about the individual. The investigation remains ongoing.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Each year, pedestrian fatalities continue to rise across the United States, many of which are preventable if drivers remain attentive. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, approximately 3,304 pedestrians were struck and killed on U.S. roads in the first half of 2024.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.

“Road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting are all contributing factors that must be carefully evaluated,” Bond added. “These steps are necessary to help families who have lost a loved one obtain justice.”

“In some cases, an accident reconstruction team is required to determine exactly what occurred. All of these resources play a key role in helping clients recover compensation for damages or loss following a crash,” said Bond, a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is generally the responsibility of drivers to yield to pedestrians,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. The family of the victim may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim.

“Family members of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of income and companionship, pain and suffering, funeral costs, and emotional distress following a tragic accident,” Formica said.

Acting as an advocate, an attorney can help guide families through this difficult period while ensuring their rights are protected.

“Insurance companies often attempt to push victims into quick settlements that may be far less than what the case is worth,” Formica noted. “An attorney will strongly advocate for their client to ensure fair treatment and appropriate compensation.”
