DPS: Thomas Carter dies in crash with UPS truck in Comal County TX

COMAL COUNTY, TX, (April 13, 2026) – A 71-year-old man was killed Monday morning in a crash involving a UPS delivery truck near Garden Ridge, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Authorities identified the victim as Thomas Carter of New Braunfels. The collision occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Farm-to-Market Road 3009 near Ponderosa Way.

Preliminary findings indicate that a UPS delivery truck traveling northbound crossed the center line and collided with a silver Lexus SUV driven by Carter. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

No additional details have been released as the investigation remains ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Several factors contribute to the rise in traffic fatalities, with driver behavior being a leading cause—including speeding, impaired driving, and distractions such as cellphone use. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 8,055 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes during the first quarter of 2025.

While authorities continue to investigate liability in this case, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, emphasized the importance of an independent investigation.

“In addition to the work conducted by law enforcement, an attorney can revisit key witnesses, review surveillance footage, and obtain phone and texting records of the responsible party,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

Time is critical in cases like these, and families must ensure that evidence is preserved and examined promptly.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family members of Thomas Carter may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of wrongful death victims can seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic accident.

“We recognize that losing a loved one is both an emotional and financial hardship,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel with Bond Legal.

“If a loved one has died due to another party’s negligence, it is important to contact a wrongful death attorney to receive proper guidance and pursue the justice deserved.”
