Terry Byrd hurt in Yell County Head-on collision, troopers report

YELL, AR, (April 23, 2026) – Three people from Dardanelle were injured Thursday afternoon in a three-vehicle collision on Arkansas 154 in Yell County, according to authorities.

A report from the Arkansas Department of Public Safety states that a westbound 2015 Hyundai crossed the centerline at approximately 2:14 p.m. and struck an eastbound 2012 Ram truck head-on. A 2017 Toyota traveling eastbound then collided with a trailer attached to the Ram.

Terry Byrd Jr., 45, was driving the Ram. Passengers Terry Byrd, 73, and Carol Byrd, 65, were also in the vehicle. All three sustained unspecified injuries and were transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota was not injured.

Arkansas State Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.

HEAD-ON CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, early estimates show that 39,345 people died in motor vehicle crashes in 2024, reflecting a decrease of about 3.8 percent from the previous year. This downward pattern has carried into 2025, with preliminary figures for the first nine months indicating approximately 27,365 fatalities, a 6.4 percent reduction compared to the same timeframe in 2024.

Despite this improvement, officials emphasize that driver error continues to be the leading cause of crashes. Speeding, distracted driving, and impairment remain major contributors to fatal head-on collisions nationwide.

“Factors such as roadway conditions, visibility, and lighting must be carefully evaluated,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“In some cases, accident reconstruction specialists are required to determine exactly what occurred. These resources are essential in helping victims recover compensation for losses or damages after a crash,” added Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

The injured victims may have the option to pursue personal injury claims as the investigation moves forward.

Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal, explained, “Individuals injured in a crash often file personal injury claims to address medical expenses, ongoing care needs, lost income, emotional distress, and pain and suffering.”

“Insurance companies are often reluctant to fully account for the financial burden placed on victims. An attorney can assist in protecting their rights and ensuring that insurers are held accountable for covering those costs,” he added.
