Police: Teen Jennifer Lopez killed in El Paso SUV collision TX

EL PASO, TX, (April 18, 2026) – A 16-year-old girl was killed early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle crash in El Paso, according to police.

Authorities said a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer was traveling eastbound in the 6500 block of Gateway East when the 18-year-old driver lost control near Buffalo Soldier Road at approximately 1:45 a.m. The vehicle then struck a utility pole.

A backseat passenger, identified as Jennifer Lopez of East El Paso, was taken to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

The condition of the driver and another passenger was not immediately released. The crash remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

According to the NHTSA, speeding remains the leading cause of fatal crashes, followed by impairment from alcohol or drugs, failure to maintain lane, failure to yield, and distracted driving. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) reported that 4,150 people died in traffic crashes across the state in 2024.
