Teen DUI accident in Novato injures Angi Sharma, kills one

NOVATO, CA, (April 11, 2026) — Angi Sharma remains hospitalized after being seriously injured in a suspected DWI crash early April 11 in Novato, authorities said.

According to police, Sharma was a passenger in a Toyota Camry that crashed into a power pole at approximately 1 a.m. near the intersection of San Marin Drive and Simmons Lane.

Investigators reported that five teenagers, ranging in age from 16 to 18, were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. All occupants sustained severe injuries and were transported to area hospitals. One of the teens later died from injuries sustained in the collision.

Authorities allege that the 17-year-old driver of the Camry was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

Most of the teens involved are believed to be students at Rancho Cotate High School in Rohnert Park. As Sharma continues her recovery, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to assist with her medical expenses.

DWI CRASH INVESTIGATION

Each year, about 300,000 innocent people are hurt in crashes involving impaired drivers, according to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).

These types of accidents are entirely preventable, as driving under the influence significantly increases the risk to everyone on the road. Impaired drivers often experience poor judgment, reduced coordination, blurred vision, and slower reaction times.

Candice Bond, a seasoned DUI accident attorney, commented on the seriousness of such incidents.

“In addition to any criminal charges, an injured victim may have the right to pursue compensation through a civil lawsuit against the at-fault party,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “An attorney can provide guidance and support during this challenging time, helping to protect the victim’s rights while holding impaired drivers accountable for their actions.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Angi Sharma may be eligible to pursue a personal injury claim following the crash. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, explained that the aftermath of a serious injury can be overwhelming and affect every part of a victim’s life, including family, employment, finances, and overall well-being.

“While financial compensation cannot undo the harm caused by a serious injury, it is essential that victims understand their legal rights and options,” Formica said. “The injured party in this case may be entitled to seek damages, including coverage for medical expenses, ongoing treatment, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.”
