Tanielu Soli Jr. killed in head-on crash with Subaru on NC 87 hwy

FAYETTEVILLE, NC, (April 20, 2026) – A head-on crash Monday morning on North Carolina Highway 87 just outside Fayetteville left two people dead, including a 12-year-old boy, and injured another, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Authorities said Tanielu Soli Jr., 41, was driving a Ford Fusion southbound near Swallowtail Court shortly after 10 a.m. when the vehicle veered off the roadway, struck a guardrail, and clipped a ditch in the median.

The vehicle then became airborne and overturned before colliding with a northbound Subaru Outback, troopers said.

Soli and a 12-year-old passenger, both of Fayetteville, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Subaru, whose identity has not been released, was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with unspecified injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

HEAD-ON ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Although head-on crashes make up only about 2% of accidents in the United States, they account for more than 10% of all traffic-related fatalities. AAA reports that from 2015 to 2018, over 2,000 people died in such collisions on divided highways.

Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, stated that driver error is the leading cause of these types of crashes. Other contributing factors may include speeding, impaired driving, distraction, poor road conditions, and driver confusion. Investigators will examine all of these possibilities.

Bond emphasized that a timely and independent investigation by an experienced attorney is critical to protect victims’ rights.

“Time is crucial in cases like this, and it is important that evidence is reviewed promptly,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “An attorney can evaluate contributing factors, work with expert witnesses, review driver histories, locate witnesses, and assess insurance coverage. Legal representation helps guide victims while safeguarding their rights and interests.”

Motor vehicle crashes injure approximately 1.9 million people annually in the United States. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, common causes include speeding, impairment, lane violations, failure to yield, and distracted driving.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the driver of the Subaru may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim for damages including medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, lost wages, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.

“A personal injury case arises when a person is harmed due to another party’s negligent or wrongful actions,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “When crashes are caused by unsafe driving behaviors such as speeding, distraction, or impairment, victims often have the option to seek compensation through a civil claim.”
