SUV and motorcycle collision leaves two hurt in Independence crash

INDEPENDENCE, MO, (March 28, 2026) – Two people were seriously injured Saturday afternoon following a collision between a motorcycle and an SUV in Independence, according to police.

Authorities said the crash occurred at approximately 4:15 p.m. on the southbound side of Noland Road near 45th Street. A Kawasaki motorcycle was reportedly speeding and weaving through traffic when a Chevrolet Tahoe attempted a left turn from a private driveway.

The motorcycle collided with the SUV, ejecting both the driver and a passenger. The passenger sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital.

The driver of the motorcycle was also ejected and suffered significant injuries. The incident remains under investigation.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION

This accident highlights the significant risks that motorcyclists and their passengers face each day on roadways. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, approximately 83,000 motorcyclists were injured in crashes in 2021, reflecting an increase of about 5 percent from the prior year.

Motorcyclists must exercise additional caution when carrying a passenger due to changes in balance and handling dynamics.

Crashes like this can occur for many reasons, including speeding, driver error, inexperience, distracted driving, impairment, and unsafe road conditions.

“Motorcyclists and their passengers are among the most vulnerable roadway users, and a number of factors can contribute to serious crashes,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“In addition to reviewing the police report, an attorney will carefully analyze all contributing factors,” Bond said. “Legal counsel has the resources to retain expert witnesses, conduct driver background checks, identify witnesses, and evaluate insurance coverage. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help guide victims and families through a difficult process while protecting their legal rights and ensuring accountability.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending an investigation, the victim may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, noted that the stress resulting from a serious injury can be overwhelming and often impacts every aspect of a victim’s life, including family, employment, finances, and overall well-being.

“It is essential for victims to retain an attorney when filing a personal injury claim, as this enables effective negotiation with insurance companies on their behalf,” Bond said.

“Insurance companies frequently attempt to pressure victims into accepting quick settlements that are far below the true value of the claim. An attorney will advocate strongly to ensure that victims are treated fairly and receive appropriate compensation.”
