Suffolk County SUV crash kills David Javurek on Kawasaki bike

SUFFOLK, NY (April 15, 2026) – A 39-year-old Sayville man died Wednesday morning following a collision between a motorcycle and an SUV at a Bohemia intersection, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

Authorities said David Javurek was riding a 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle northbound on Lakeland Avenue when a 2024 Nissan Pathfinder attempted to turn left from Peter Lane into the southbound lanes. The two vehicles collided shortly before 8 a.m.

Javurek sustained severe injuries and was transported to NYU Langone Hospital–Suffolk, where he was later pronounced dead.

The SUV driver, a 41-year-old woman, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both vehicles were impounded for safety inspections. The investigation remains ongoing.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION

In 2023, U.S. motorcycle fatalities reached a record 6,335, accounting for 15% of all traffic deaths, the highest since 1975, according to NHTSA. With a fatality rate of 31.39 per 100 million miles traveled, improved driver awareness and road safety measures remain critical.

“Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable road users,” said Candice Bond, managing partner of Bond Legal. “Even relatively minor collisions can result in serious or fatal injuries, making caution essential for all drivers.”

Bond, an experienced motorcycle accident attorney, emphasized that in cases like this, an independent investigation conducted by a qualified attorney is crucial to protect the rights of the victim’s family.

“Factors such as blind spots, driver inexperience, and distractions often contribute to these crashes. An attorney can serve as an advocate, guiding families through the legal process while ensuring accountability if traffic laws were violated.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of David Javurek may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic accident.

“The emotional toll after losing a loved one in a crash can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the challenges families face, and protecting their rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are fully protected.”
