CLEAR CREEK, CO, (October 14, 2025) — A 51-year-old Arvada man, Steven Ainsworth, tragically died in a head-on collision on Oct. 14 involving a suspect fleeing from police on Highway 6 in Clear Creek County, according to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP).
Officials said Ainsworth’s vehicle was struck by a Chrysler Town and Country minivan driven by Christopher Moore at about 2 p.m. just east of Tunnel 6.
The incident began when Clear Creek County deputies spotted the suspect driving near Highway 40 at Floyd Hill. When officers attempted a traffic stop, Moore fled west on Highway 6, then entered I-70 traveling the wrong way. Deputies ended their pursuit due to construction-related closures that had cleared eastbound traffic.
Roughly half a mile later, Moore turned around, drove toward officers, hit stop sticks, and continued east on deflated tires. Shortly after passing through Tunnel 6, he crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into Ainsworth’s vehicle.
Ainsworth was airlifted to a hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries.
