Springfield Teen Dies in Christian Co Head-on Collision on MO 14

CHRISTIAN, MO, (May 19, 2026) – A Springfield teenager was killed Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash outside Nixa in Christian County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Authorities said the collision occurred at approximately 12:22 p.m. along Missouri Route 14 near Delaware Town Road. Investigators reported that a 2004 Ford Taurus traveling westbound hydroplaned, crossed into the opposite lane of traffic, and collided with an eastbound 2017 Ford Flex.

An 18-year-old female passenger in the Taurus, identified only as a Springfield resident, died at the scene of the accident.

Officials said two occupants of the Ford Flex sustained moderate injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment. The 20-year-old man driving the Taurus suffered minor injuries.

Additional details regarding the crash were not immediately released.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) identifies speeding as one of the leading causes of traffic collisions, along with impaired driving, distracted driving, failure to maintain lane position, and failure to yield the right of way.

Regardless of the conclusions reached in a police investigation, Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, emphasized the importance of conducting an independent investigation to help preserve evidence and safeguard the rights of grieving families.

According to NHTSA estimates, 36,640 people lost their lives in traffic crashes nationwide in 2025, including 914 fatalities reported in Missouri.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all potential contributing factors that investigators carefully evaluate,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“It is critical to determine the precise cause of accidents like these. Attorneys have the resources to review insurance coverage, retain expert witnesses, perform background checks, and identify witnesses. We work closely with families throughout the legal process,” Bond added.

“Accident reconstruction specialists are often necessary to help determine exactly how a collision occurred. These resources can be essential in helping families pursue compensation following a serious or fatal crash,” she said.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of the victim may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families affected by fatal crashes may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages resulting from a tragic accident.

“The grief and emotional hardship following the loss of a loved one in a collision can be devastating,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the challenges families face after a tragedy like this, and protecting their legal rights is extremely important. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the official investigation and help ensure the family’s interests remain protected.”

“An attorney can also help families deal with insurance companies and legal representatives while thoroughly reviewing the facts surrounding the accident. Legal counsel will work diligently to advocate for the rights of surviving family members,” he added.

Additionally, injured victims involved in the crash may have the right to pursue personal injury claims. Formica noted that “victims injured in collisions often seek compensation for medical expenses, future treatment costs, lost income, emotional distress, and pain and suffering.”
