APOPKA, FL, (November 23, 2025) – A 94-year-old woman, identified as Aida Maldonado, was tragically killed Sunday evening when a speeding vehicle crashed into the van transporting her to a nursing home in Apopka.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the collision occurred when an 18-year-old driving a Ford Mustang struck the side of an Access Lynx van carrying Maldonado.
Family members described Maldonado as warm-hearted and devoted to her loved ones. Earlier in the day, she had spent time at her daughter’s home before beginning a short trip back to the nursing facility, where other relatives were waiting for her arrival.
Troopers said the crash happened just after 6 p.m. as the van attempted to turn on Rock Springs Road and was struck by the speeding Mustang.
The incident remains under investigation.
