Southside crash hurt Connie Smith in chain-reaction wreck on US 167

SOUTHSIDE, AR (April 13, 2026) – A fatal three-vehicle crash Monday morning in Southside left one driver dead and injured two others, including Connie Smith, according to Arkansas State Police.

Authorities said a Nissan Altima traveling northbound crossed the centerline on U.S. 167 near Nelly Belle Lane at approximately 6:51 a.m., striking a GMC Acadia head-on before being hit by a Cadillac.

Connie Smith, 62, of Clinton, was driving the Cadillac and was transported to White River Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the GMC was also injured and taken to Unity Health.

The driver of the Nissan, a 57-year-old man from Judsonia, was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers reported that conditions were dry at the time of the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing.

HEAD-ON CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, early estimates indicate that 39,345 people died in motor vehicle traffic crashes in 2024, a decrease of approximately 3.8 percent from the previous year. This decline has continued into 2025, with preliminary figures for the first nine months showing an estimated 27,365 fatalities, a 6.4 percent reduction compared to the same period in 2024.

Despite this trend, authorities stress that driver error remains the primary cause of crashes. Speeding, distraction, and impairment continue to contribute significantly to head-on collisions across the country.

“Contributing factors to be examined include road conditions, visibility, and lighting,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“In certain cases, accident reconstruction teams are needed to help determine how a crash occurred. These tools are essential in helping victims recover compensation for damages or loss following a collision,” said Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Connie Smith may have the right to pursue personal injury claims pending an investigation.

Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal, said, “Injured victims involved in a collision often pursue personal injury claims to cover medical bills, future care, lost wages, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering.”

“Insurance companies often overlook the true financial burden placed on victims. An attorney can help ensure that those affected are treated fairly and receive proper compensation,” he added.
