LIVINGSTON, LA (May 28, 2026) — A 55-year-old French Settlement woman died following a two-vehicle collision Wednesday evening in Livingston Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.
Authorities identified the victim as Sophia Stutts. Investigators said the crash occurred shortly after 5 p.m. on LA 444 at Dutch Lane when a southbound 2018 Dodge Ram pickup truck struck the rear of a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire.
Troopers said Stutts was operating the Pontiac, which had come to a stop in the roadway as she attempted to make a left turn into a private driveway when the collision occurred.
Emergency responders transported Stutts to a nearby hospital with severe injuries. Despite medical efforts, she later died from her injuries.
A front-seat passenger in the Pontiac and the driver of the pickup truck both sustained minor injuries and were taken for medical evaluation.
Authorities confirmed that all occupants were properly restrained at the time of the crash and stated that impairment is not suspected to have played a role.
The Louisiana State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, and routine toxicology results are pending.
