Solomon Sutton Killed in Cocke County Motorcycle Collision

COCKE, TN (July 3, 2026) — A North Carolina motorcyclist was killed Friday evening after a minivan turned into his path at a Cocke County intersection, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Authorities identified the victim as 31-year-old Solomon Sealbury Sutton of North Carolina.

The crash occurred at approximately 6:20 p.m. when a 2005 Dodge Caravan attempted to make a left turn onto Highway 107 from East Highway 25/70 and collided with an eastbound motorcycle. Both vehicles came to rest in the intersection following the impact.

Sutton, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said charges against the driver of the Dodge Caravan are pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION

In 2023, U.S. motorcycle fatalities reached a record 6,335, accounting for 15% of all traffic deaths, making it the deadliest year since 1975, according to the NHTSA. With a fatality rate of 31.39 per 100 million miles traveled, stronger driver awareness and roadway safety measures remain essential to preventing fatal crashes.

“Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable road users,” said Candice Bond, managing partner of Bond Legal. “Even relatively minor collisions can result in devastating injuries, making caution essential for every motorist.”

Bond, an experienced motorcycle accident attorney, noted that in cases such as this, an independent investigation conducted by a seasoned lawyer is important to help protect the rights of a victim’s family.

“Blind spots, inexperienced drivers, and distracted motorists often contribute to these types of crashes. An attorney can serve as an advocate for the family during this difficult time, helping protect their rights while working to ensure a driver is held accountable if traffic laws were violated.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the victim’s family may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving family members can seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand just what families are forced to go through, and protecting their rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney will continue to monitor the official investigation and help ensure that the family’s legal rights and best interests are protected.”
