Small plane crash in Hays County kills Glen Appling near Wimberley

WIMBERLEY, TX, (April 30, 2026) – Glen Appling was identified as one of five victims who died Thursday night in a small plane crash near Wimberley in Hays County.

According to the Hays County Homeland Security & Emergency Management, Appling was aboard a Cessna 421C that crashed in a wooded area at approximately 11:05 p.m. in the 200 block of Round Rock Road. Officials said the aircraft had departed Amarillo about two hours earlier and was en route to New Braunfels National Airport.

Authorities reported that the plane was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash. All five occupants were killed. The group was reportedly traveling to attend a pickleball tournament.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

FATAL SMALL PLANE CRASH INVESTIGATION

Airplane accidents are uncommon, but when they occur, they often lead to severe injuries or fatalities.

Statistics show that the likelihood of being involved in a commercial aviation accident is about one in 5 million. However, around 500 people lose their lives annually in small aircraft crashes, which make up 97 percent of aviation-related fatalities. These incidents are frequently linked to pilot error, though mechanical failures and adverse weather conditions can also contribute.

Candice Bond, an experienced aviation attorney, emphasized that in situations like this, it is crucial for families to ensure a comprehensive investigation is carried out to safeguard their rights.

“An attorney can advocate for a grieving family, hiring expert witnesses, locating witnesses to the crash, while working with the NTSB, FAA, and other investigating agencies,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst with Accident Injury News. “Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide a family during this difficult time, protecting their legal rights and best interests.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family members of Glen Appling may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages following a tragic accident like this one.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “We understand what families experience during such times, and protecting their rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney will follow the official investigation and help ensure that the family’s legal rights and best interests are preserved.”
