Simon Keough seriously injured in Toledo traffic light accident

TOLEDO, Ohio — A woman died and two men sustained serious injuries in a red-light-related accident on Anthony Wayne Trail.

The incident happened at 8:12 p.m. on May 29 at the intersection with Sherwood Avenue.

Simon Keough, age 22, of Liberty Center, was driving a black Pontiac G6 westbound on Sherwood when a white Range Rover SUV entered the intersection. A witness told officers that Sherwood traffic had the green light when the northbound SUV struck the Pontiac on the driver’s side.

The force of the impact sent the Pontiac into a spin and ejected both Keough and his passenger, a 22-year-old woman from West Toledo.

EMS transported all three individuals to the University of Toledo Medical Center with serious injuries.

The West Toledo woman succumbed to injuries on June 11. Hospital staff listed Keough and the 32-year-old Maumee man who drove the SUV in stable condition.

The Toledo Police Department is investigating the sequence of events that led to the accident.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Red light accidents in Ohio contribute significantly to the state’s intersection-related crash totals each year. While specific red light crash numbers aren’t always separately reported, state traffic safety data shows that many serious and fatal collisions occur at signalized intersections, particularly in high-traffic urban areas like Franklin, Cuyahoga, and Hamilton counties.

These accidents often involve speeding, distraction, or drivers running red lights during evening rush hours. The Ohio Statistics and Analytics for Traffic Safety provides detailed breakdowns of such incidents.

“It is imperative to come to a determination of the exact cause of these types of accidents. An attorney has the resources to review applicable insurance coverage, hire expert witnesses, run background checks, and locate witnesses. We carefully guide the family of the victim through the process,” said Candice Bond, a managing partner with Bond Legal.

“In addition to a police report, an attorney will carefully review what may have contributed to the crash,” said Bond. “A lawyer has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct background checks, locate witnesses to the crash and review applicable insurance coverage. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help guide an injury victim through what can be a complicated process.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Simon Keough may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim, pending the results of the investigation.

Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal, said, “Injured victims involved in a collision often seek a personal injury claim to cover the cost of medical bills, future medical care, loss of income, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering.

“Insurance companies can be notoriously unconcerned with the mounting costs that an injured party may accrue. That’s where an attorney can help. We protect the victims of these tragedies daily, forcing the insurance companies to pay for their mistakes,” he added.
