LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. — A woman was killed Monday afternoon in a collision with a vehicle in Lauderdale Lakes.
Silmine Louizaire was walking east slightly beyond the designated crosswalk area around 4 p.m. when the accident occurred. Authorities said she stepped into the northbound lanes of traffic in the 4100 block of North State Road 7.
A 2015 Honda Accord was heading north in the center lane toward Northwest 41st Street when it struck Louizaire. The vehicle’s front passenger side collided with Louizaire as she crossed in front of the car.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue pronounced Louizaire dead at the scene. The driver remained and cooperated with investigators throughout their inquiries.
Investigators from Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are examining the circumstances surrounding Louizaire’s death. Preliminary findings suggest excessive speed did not play a role in causing the crash.
