SCOTT, MO, (March 25, 2026) – A pedestrian was seriously injured early Wednesday morning after being struck by a minivan in Scott County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Authorities said a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica traveling northbound on Missouri Route 77 failed to yield and hit a 41-year-old man from Sikeston at about 5:30 a.m.
The victim sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital for treatment.
Pedestrians remain among the most vulnerable road users. While everyone is encouraged to exercise caution, the primary responsibility lies with drivers operating vehicles.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 140,000 pedestrians were injured in crashes and treated in emergency rooms in 2022. These incidents are frequently linked to distracted driving, speeding, and failure to yield.
