Fatal Shreveport collision kills Marco Gomez, police say

SHREVEPORT, LA (April 5, 2026) – A 42-year-old man was killed Sunday afternoon in a high-speed collision crash on Shreveport’s west side.

According to the Shreveport Police Department, the crash occurred shortly after 5 p.m. in the 4100 block of Pines Road when a northbound Dodge Challenger traveling at a high rate of speed struck a Chevrolet Traverse entering from a stop sign near Bill Cockrell Metro Park.

Marco Gomez, a passenger in the Traverse, was transported to Ochsner LSU Health, where he was pronounced dead at 6:13 p.m.

The driver of the Traverse suffered life-threatening injuries, while several other occupants and the Challenger driver sustained minor injuries.

Authorities believe speed was a key factor in the accident. Charges are expected.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding contributed to 29 percent of all traffic fatalities in 2023, resulting in 11,775 deaths across the United States. High speeds not only increase the likelihood of crashes but also significantly worsen the severity of injuries.

“Factors such as road conditions, visibility, and lighting are carefully reviewed during an investigation,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“In some cases, accident reconstruction experts are utilized to determine exactly how the crash occurred. These resources are essential in helping victims and their families pursue compensation following a collision,” Bond added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Marco Gomez may pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving relatives may seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following such a tragic accident.

“The emotional burden after losing a loved one in a crash can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the difficulties families face, and ensuring their legal rights are protected is critical. A wrongful death attorney will monitor the investigation and help safeguard the family’s best interests,” he added.
