Shawn Wylie Hurt After GMC Sierra Head-On Collision in Jefferson

Jefferson County, AR (June 30, 2026) — A 24-year-old Monticello man was injured Tuesday afternoon in a head-on collision in rural Jefferson County, according to the Arkansas State Police.

Authorities said Shawn Wylie was driving a 2016 GMC Sierra northbound on State Highway 530 near the Pinebergen Overpass when a 2008 Chevrolet Impala, traveling south on the same route, attempted to pass multiple vehicles at approximately 3:30 p.m. The maneuver forced Wylie’s GMC off the roadway. The Chevrolet also left the roadway before striking Wylie’s vehicle head-on.

Wylie was transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet, a 24-year-old Star City man, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Weather conditions were clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation.

HEAD-ON CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

The Arkansas State Police continue to investigate the crash.

Passing in areas where it isn’t permitted is one of the leading causes of head-on collisions, and these types of crashes tend to result in a disproportionately high number of injuries and deaths. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) reports that roughly 10% of all passing-related crashes take place within marked no-passing zones.

Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, said that in situations like this, it’s critical to have a skilled lawyer carry out an independent investigation to protect the evidence and safeguard the rights of the victim’s family.

“An attorney can gather the necessary evidence to help establish that a driver’s conduct was reckless, drawing on a range of resources to do so,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst with Accident Injury News.

“Beyond the work already being done by law enforcement, an attorney can go back and re-interview key witnesses, review any available surveillance footage from the crash site, and obtain phone and texting records belonging to the at-fault driver. Acting as an advocate, an attorney can help guide a grieving family with compassion through this difficult time, protecting their legal rights and best interests while making sure a driver who breaks traffic laws is held responsible.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Shawn Wylie may have grounds to pursue a personal injury lawsuit.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, noted that the stress and worry following a serious injury can be overwhelming, disrupting nearly every part of life — including family, work, finances, and overall quality of life.

“While no amount of money can undo the damage of a serious injury, it’s important for a victim to know their rights and what they may be entitled to under the law,” Formica added.

“The victim injured in this collision may be eligible to file an injury claim, potentially seeking recovery for damages including medical expenses, future medical care, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.”
