Shawn Barco killed in hit-and-run accident in Milwaukee, police say

MILWAUKEE, WI, (April 23, 2026) – A 35-year-old man lost his life in a hit-and-run crash Thursday morning in Milwaukee, according to police.

The crash remains under investigation.

HIT-AND-RUN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Leaving the scene of a crash is a criminal offense, yet data shows that more than one hit-and-run accident happens every minute across U.S. roadways.

Drivers often flee because they may be impaired, unlicensed, or fear arrest if they remain at the scene.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, noted that in cases like this, it is crucial to have an independent investigation carried out promptly by an experienced attorney to safeguard a victim’s rights.

“Having the right resources is essential to properly investigate a hit-and-run case and establish negligence,” said Bond, a national analyst with Accident Injury News. “Factors such as road conditions, visibility of signage, and lighting must all be carefully reviewed. These steps are critical to help victims or their families pursue justice and financial compensation.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Shawn Barco may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim. Loved ones of victims in fatal accidents can seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain, suffering, and emotional distress following such tragic incidents.

“We recognize the emotional toll families endure after losing a loved one, and ensuring their rights are protected is essential,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death attorney can monitor the official investigation and work to protect the family’s best interests. Relatives may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress resulting from a tragic accident.”
