ATLANTA, GA (June 28, 2026) — A 50-year-old pedestrian was killed in an alleged drunken driving crash early Sunday morning in Atlanta, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Serkaddis Bekele.
Police said Bekele was crossing Courtland Street NE near the crosswalk at Auburn Avenue NE shortly before 3 a.m. when she was struck by a southbound Jeep Wrangler. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 28-year-old woman driving the Jeep remained at the location following the collision. Authorities charged her with homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence, reckless driving, and an open container violation.
The Atlanta Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal pedestrian crash.
