SEDRO-WOOLLEY, WA (July 4, 2026) — A 19-year-old woman was killed Saturday afternoon after she was struck by an alleged drunken driver while selling fireworks in Sedro-Woolley, according to police.
Authorities said Anahi Rose Mendoza was selling fireworks near the intersection of State Route 20 and Township Road when a speeding vehicle struck her at approximately 2:04 p.m. The driver allegedly fled the scene immediately after the collision.
With assistance from several witnesses, law enforcement officers located both the suspect and the vehicle near State Route 20 and Ball Street shortly after the incident.
Police charged the unidentified driver with driving under the influence, vehicular homicide, and driving with a suspended license. Authorities said the suspect has a criminal history in Washington as well as several other states.
Investigators said Mendoza had been selling fireworks to raise money for her first cross-country trip to Florida with her boyfriend and family members.
The crash remains under investigation. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist Mendoza’s family with expenses following the tragedy.
