LINCOLN, IL, (Aug. 13, 2026) – A 54-year-old Saybrook man was killed in a head-on crash Thursday near Lincoln.
Authorities say Scott Baxter was driving one of the vehicles involved in the collision at approximately 4 p.m. on U.S. Route 66 near 1500th Avenue. Baxter was transported to Lincoln Memorial Hospital, where he later died. No additional details surrounding the crash have been released.
From 2015 to 2018, more than 2,000 people died in head-on collisions on divided highways nationwide. Driver error remains the leading cause of these crashes, with common contributing factors including drunk driving, speeding, distracted driving, poor road design, inexperienced drivers, and driver confusion.
