Scooter rider Astrid Carrillo Noguera struck by Jeep in Chicago

CHICAGO, IL, (April 24, 2026) – Astrid Alexandra Carrillo Noguera, 17, was tragically killed in an electric scooter crash on April 24 in Chicago’s Douglas neighborhood.

According to Chicago police, Noguera was riding a scooter at approximately 4:15 p.m. in the 3300 block of South King Drive when she was struck by a Jeep. She was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries.

Authorities said the driver of the Jeep, a 36-year-old woman, was cited for failure to avoid an accident.

Family members have created a GoFundMe page to assist with expenses during this difficult time. On the page, Noguera’s sister, Angelica Carrillo Noguera, described her as the “light of our home” and remembered her as a joyful person who always made others smile.

Noguera was a high school student who had planned to attend Loyola University Chicago in the fall, where she intended to study marketing and international business.

FATAL SCOOTER ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Noguera was the second teenager killed in Chicago this year while riding an electric scooter. Collisions involving scooters and vehicles can happen for several reasons, including the smaller size of scooters that makes them less visible, along with factors such as distracted driving, speeding, and failure to yield.

Data from the Consumer Product and Safety Commission shows that injuries and deaths involving scooters, e-bikes, and hoverboards have been increasing. Between 2017 and 2021, injuries rose by 127% to 77,200, while fatalities increased from five to 48. Scooters accounted for the largest percentage jump in injuries and were linked to 68 deaths during that period.

Candice Bond, an experienced motor scooter accident attorney, noted that crashes like this are often the result of driver negligence.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important when investigating a scooter accident case and demonstrating that there was negligence on the part of a motorist,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “Road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and must be thoroughly examined.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Astrid Alexandra Carrillo Noguera may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of victims can seek compensation for loss of companionship, funeral expenses, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic accident.

“We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death attorney will remain informed about the official investigation and help ensure that the family’s best interests are protected. Relatives of wrongful death victims are entitled to seek damages for the loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.”
