Scheaky Washington dies in Houston hit-and-run accident

HOUSTON, TX, (March 27, 2026) – A 50-year-old woman, identified as Scheaky Washington, was killed in a hit-and-run crash Friday night in Houston’s Acres Homes neighborhood, according to police.

Authorities said Washington was crossing W. Little York Road near De Priest Street with a friend around 8:30 p.m. when a black Chevrolet Tahoe struck both pedestrians and fled the scene eastbound.

Washington was pronounced dead at the scene. Her companion was transported to a hospital with injuries.

Police believe the driver may have been a woman. No arrests have been made as the investigation continues.

FATAL ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

In many hit-and-run cases, at-fault drivers attempt to evade responsibility by fleeing the scene. However, suspects can face serious charges once they are identified and apprehended.

Leaving the scene of an accident is a crime, and statistics show that more than one hit-and-run crash occurs every minute on U.S. roadways.

Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, stated that in cases like this, it is crucial to have an independent investigation conducted promptly by a skilled attorney to help protect a victim’s rights.

“Having the proper resources is vital in investigating a hit-and-run case and establishing negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“Factors such as road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all carefully evaluated as part of the investigation,” Bond added.

These steps are important in helping families who have lost loved ones in hit-and-run crashes pursue justice and secure the compensation they deserve.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Scheaky Washington could pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“The stress and grief can be overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand what families go through during these difficult times, and protecting their rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney will stay informed about the official investigation and help ensure that the family’s legal rights and best interests are protected.”
