DURHAM COUNTY, N.C.— Authorities are investigating a deadly multi-vehicle accident on April 20 that resulted from a traffic stop attempt.
The accident happened late in the afternoon on U.S. Route 501 near Roxboro Street and Latta Road. Deputies pursued a 2003 Infiniti after suspects fled from a parking lot during a traffic stop. The Infiniti crossed the centerline and hit a northbound Honda CR-V head-on. The vehicle then struck a Lincoln Navigator traveling in the same direction.
Officials identified Mercedes Toledo-Goss as the passenger in the fleeing Infiniti. She was ejected from the vehicle during the accident and pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Infiniti, whose name has not been released, was also pronounced dead. The driver of the Honda CR-V, a Bahama woman, died as well.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol and the Durham County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate.
