San Antonio head-on crash kills John Rodriguez, police report

SAN ANTONIO, TX, (June 25, 2026) — A 35-year-old man lost his life early Thursday morning following a devastating head-on collision at the Interstate 35 and Interstate 37 interchange in downtown San Antonio, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

Authorities said a blue Chrysler traveling southbound collided head-on with a red Toyota at approximately 2:30 a.m. The force of the crash left both drivers with fatal injuries, and they were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police identified the Toyota driver as John Anthony Rodriguez, 35. The identity of the Chrysler driver has not yet been released by authorities.

A 25-year-old woman riding as a passenger in the Toyota suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment.

The San Antonio Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision. Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact investigators.

HEAD-ON CRASH INVESTIGATION

Driver error remains one of the leading causes of head-on collisions. However, these serious crashes can also result from speeding, distracted driving, impaired driving, poor roadway design, inexperienced motorists, and driver confusion.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an estimated 40,901 people died in motor vehicle crashes in the United States in 2023, a 4.3% decrease from 2022 and the second consecutive annual decline.

“Contributing factors to be examined include road conditions, visibility, and lighting,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes required to determine exactly how a collision occurred. These investigative resources are critical in helping clients pursue monetary compensation for damages or losses following a serious crash,” Bond added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of the victim may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving relatives of wrongful death victims can seek compensation for the loss of companionship, emotional distress, pain and suffering, and other damages resulting from a tragic accident.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“We understand the difficult challenges families face during this time, and protecting their legal rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney will monitor the official investigation and help ensure that the family’s rights and best interests remain protected,” Bond added.
