Samuel Mateus hurt in Greenfield Highway 55 collision

GREENFIELD, MN, (March 26, 2026) – A man was seriously injured Thursday in a head-on collision in Greenfield, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Authorities said Samuel Mateus was a passenger in a Jeep Cherokee traveling westbound on Minnesota State Highway 55 when the vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.

Mateus sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital for treatment. The driver of the Toyota suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

HEAD-ON ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Head-on collisions are among the most severe types of traffic accidents due to the force generated when vehicles traveling at high speeds collide.

Although they make up only about two percent of all crashes, they account for roughly 10 percent of motor vehicle fatalities. These types of collisions frequently result in serious injuries, including traumatic brain injuries (TBIs).

Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, emphasized that in cases like this, it is essential to conduct an independent investigation led by a qualified attorney to safeguard a victim’s rights.

“In addition to the work performed by law enforcement, an attorney can re-examine key witnesses, review any available surveillance footage, and obtain phone and text records from the potentially liable party,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help guide an injured victim and their family through this challenging time while protecting their legal rights and interests.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Samuel Mateus may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, noted that the impact of a serious injury can be overwhelming, affecting a victim’s family life, work, finances, and overall well-being.

“While no amount of compensation can undo a serious injury, it is important that victims understand their legal rights and the compensation they may be entitled to,” Formica said. “The injured victim in this case may pursue damages for medical expenses, future care, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.”
