Salina DUI crash injures Brendan Kearney, driver charged

SALINA, NY, (April 11, 2026) — A Syracuse man suffered critical injuries Saturday night after being dragged by a vehicle whose driver later crashed into a home in Salina.

According to police, Brendan M. Kearney, 38, had dropped off a passenger at a residence on Colony Park Drive around 11 p.m. when the individual refused to exit the vehicle. Authorities said Kearney reached inside the car to remove the keys when the driver suddenly accelerated in reverse.

Kearney was dragged and thrown onto the pavement as the vehicle continued moving before crashing into the living room of a nearby home. He was transported to Upstate University Hospital, where he remains in critical condition with a reported brain bleed.

Officials determined the driver was impaired by drugs and filed multiple charges. The investigation remains ongoing.

DUI ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

This tragic crash could have been avoided. Drivers under the influence pose a serious danger to everyone on the road and can cause life-altering consequences.

“Drunken and drug-impaired drivers can face criminal charges when their actions lead to injury or death,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“In addition to criminal proceedings, victims and their families may also pursue financial recovery through a civil lawsuit against the at-fault party,” added Bond, a seasoned DUI accident attorney.

According to the National Safety Council, approximately 10 percent of all fatal crashes involve drivers impaired by alcohol, drugs, or medications, making such incidents the second-leading cause of traffic deaths in the United States.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Brendan Kearney may be eligible to pursue a personal injury claim as the investigation progresses.

Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal, explained, “Victims injured in crashes often file personal injury claims to recover damages such as medical expenses, ongoing care costs, lost wages, emotional distress, and pain and suffering.”

He added, “Insurance companies are often indifferent to the growing financial burden faced by injured individuals. Legal representation plays a key role in holding them accountable and ensuring victims receive the compensation they deserve.”
