SCHP: Ruth Orme fatally died in Old York Road intersection crash

YORK, SC, (November 17, 2025) — An 85-year-old Rock Hill woman died Monday after a two-vehicle collision at a York County intersection, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

SCHP reported that Ruth Orme was driving a 2023 Honda sedan eastbound on Old York Road when she attempted a left turn onto Mount Gallant Road. Her vehicle collided with a westbound 1982 Chevrolet pickup truck at around 5:10 p.m.

Orme died at the scene from her injuries. The pickup driver was taken to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 1,094 people were killed in traffic crashes across South Carolina in 2023. The agency notes that speeding is the top contributing factor in deadly crashes, followed by impairment from alcohol, drugs, or medication; improper lane use; failure to yield; and distracted driving.

Regardless of what the official investigation concludes, Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, emphasized the importance of securing an independent inquiry to determine all circumstances of the crash and safeguard a victim’s rights.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are just a few of the factors that must be evaluated,” said Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney.

“An attorney has the resources to examine insurance coverage, retain expert witnesses, conduct background checks, and locate additional witnesses. We work closely with families to guide them through the process.”

Bond noted that in many cases, an accident reconstruction team may also be needed to help clarify what occurred. These resources are often essential for securing compensation on behalf of victims and their families, added Bond, a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Ruth Orme may pursue a wrongful death claim. Such claims allow surviving family members to seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages resulting from a tragic accident.

“The grief and emotional burden after losing a loved one can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the challenges families face, and ensuring their rights are upheld is crucial. A wrongful death attorney will monitor the official investigation and help protect the family’s legal interests.”

An attorney can also shield families from insurance companies and their legal teams while thoroughly examining the facts of the crash. They will advocate on behalf of the family to ensure their rights remain secure.
